Miracles We’ve Witnessed at BirthRight
Rainbow Team performed
a unique and life saving procedure on “Unborn Baby”- EXIT (Exutero Intrapartum
Treatment) and the team successfully helped in achieving the dream of a couple
to become parents.
A couple
from Warangal were devasted to learn that their unborn baby had a huge neck
mass detected during a routine pregnancy scan. As a second opinion they reached
out to Rainbow Hospital in Banjara Hills to explore possibilities as the finding
was life-threatening, and they were advised to consider abortion. Their hope
and strong belief in Rainbow Hospital as best paediatrics’ turned out to be
successful. The team of doctors explained the couple that the large mass was obstructing
the baby’s airway and food pipe. They informed the couple that for any chance
of survival, a unique and rare procedure called EXIT (Exutero Intrapartum
Treatment) would need to be performed at the time of delivery.
At 37 weeks of
pregnancy, the mother had a caesarean section with an “EXIT” procedure. A team
of specialists, including an anesthetist, ENT surgeon, pediatric surgeon, and
neonatologist, assisted the baby in breathing via a tracheostomy while still
connected to the placenta. Although the baby was critical after delivery, the
EXIT procedure allowed her to breathe. She required intensive care and
ventilator support, along with surgery to remove the neck mass. After six weeks
with the breathing tube, the baby is now two months old, breathing on her own,
and preparing to go home with her parents.
